Following an early morning email conversation with both Laurel Kennedy and Elena Meth, the Bullsheet heeded Dr. Kennedy’s suggestion to temporarily halt publication of today’s ‘Sheet. The only issue with that decision was that the ‘Sheet had already been uploaded online and distributed in our usual delivery locations. We walked it back as quickly as we could out of respect for Dr. Kennedy’s concerns toward being able to care for communities who might be negatively affected or triggered by the content of the article. Elena was in support of this decision and it was a decision of our own accord, not an act of censorship.
We would also like to clear the air regarding the ethics of publishing this exchange between the two parties. It is important to note that the emails in question were not exclusive solely to the two members named in the ‘Sheet and many other parties were privy, as Elena was writing on behalf of DCSR and SHARE, hence our decision to move forward with publication. It in no way violates the Bullsheet constitution and this was something we considered thoughtfully, but ultimately decided this was relevant to the student body as a whole.
Now that we have taken proper steps, spoken with administration and consulted relevant parties, we’ve decided to re-publish and apologize for any confusion caused.
